At the CWHN, we were deeply saddened to learn of the death of disability rights activist Maria Barile in Montreal on July 24. One of the original founders of DAWN, the DisAbled Women's Network (Canada), Maria was also actively involved in and shared her expertise in the formation of the CWHN in the early 1990s. She was a fearless and committed feminist, tireless in her efforts to ensure respect, safety and equality for people with disabilities, women in particular. Her passing leaves a tremendous gap in the disability rights movement both in Quebec and in Canada. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all those who knew and loved her.
