Recommends that routine screening for depression in asymptomatic individuals be excluded from periodic health assessments based on fair evidence that such screening by questionnaire did not improve detection rate or management. Also recommends physicians should be sensitive to the possibility of depression in their patients, particularly those at higher risk.
