September 28, 2008 Pan-Canadian

A large Canada-wide day of protest is scheduled for Sunday September 28, 2008, with protests being staged in many large Canadian cities, in order to state vigorously that the population opposes this bill that will turn the clock back 20 years for women’s rights.

Bill C-484, the "Unborn Victims of Crime Act" passed second reading in Parliament last March.  This bill would make it a separate offence to injure or kill a foetus during a crime committed against a pregnant woman.   If it was adopted, it would establish the foetus as a new legal entity, a precedent which would set the table for challenging the right to abortion, and which could also lead to the criminalisation of certain pregnant women for behaviour deemed to be dangerous for the foetus.

Block Sunday September 28, 2008 in your planners right away, speak to your colleagues, friends, relatives, and come out in large numbers to say No to Bill C-484!
