Tobacco Marketing to Girls and Women in a Global World

On World No Tobacco Day 2010, the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women's Health invites you to attend a webcast on the impact of tobacco marketing on women and girls. This topic addresses the World Health Organization's theme for the 2010 World No Tobacco Day which is gender and tobacco with an emphasis on marketing to women.

Speakers:
Amanda Amos, Professor of Health Promotion, The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland
Amanda will provide an overview of the ways in which girls and women have been targeted by tobacco industry marketing strategies. Her presentation will focus on current European marketing strategies, drawing examples from a monograph on this issue which will be published by WHO Europe on World No Tobacco Day.

Vanesa Fagyas, Research Assistant, BC Centre of Excellence for Women's Health, Vancouver, Canada
Vanesa will discuss strategies used by the tobacco industry to target tobacco advertising to women and girls in Argentina.  She will draw upon the findings from a research project entitled Globalization, Gender and Tobacco: Gender Based Analysis and Tobacco Policy in Argentina, funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research.
