A five-city series of symposia about putting nutrition information on restaurant menus 

The Centre for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), in association with a network of non-profit health partners, is pleased to announce the following events:

What:  Writing on the Wall, a five-city series of symposia about putting nutrition information on restaurant menus to explore effective measures to equip restaurant customers make informed menu choices and to stimulate restaurants owners to sell nutritious foods.

When:  The mornings of Monday to Friday, September 10-14, 2012

Where:  Vancouver (Sept.10), Winnipeg (Sept. 11), Toronto (Sept. 12), Ottawa (Sept. 13), and Halifax (Sept. 14) at venues to to be confirmed soon.

Who:  Up to 10 speakers at each site, including:

  • Bryan Bollinger, PhD, New York University,
  • Christina Huang, Doctoral Fellow, Rand Institute, San Diego, California,
  • Bill Jeffery, LLB, National Coordinator of the Centre for Science in the Public Interest, and
  • a roster of leading Canadian national, provincial and local health experts, advocates and policy-makers.

Why:  This is a must attend event for dietitians, health advocates, policy-makers, restaurant owners, researchers, journalists and others with an interest in the health and informed consumer choice for restaurant customers.

What:  The 3rd Biennial Championing Public Health Nutrition conference will explore measures to reduce the human and economic toll of nutrition-related illness.  Topics will include sodium-reduction, the economics of prevention, marketing to children, conflict of interest in the formation of public policy, leadership in cities, and much more.

Where:  The Great Hall of the historic Hart House, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

When:  October 29-30, 2012

Who:  Nearly three dozen Canadian and international experts, policy-makers, advocates, and journalists

Why:  This is a "must-attend" event for federal, provincial or municipal policy-makers, health researchers, health journalists, food company executives, nutrition-promoters, child and health advocates, educators, and anyone concerned about the diets of Canadians!
