SEPTEMBER 14, 2012
Elizabeth McGibbon, RN, PhD
Associate Professor, St. Francis Xavier University
Controversy and outrage regarding issues of equity and the lack of social justice are currently voiced in our communities and around the world. We see this in the Occupy movement, demonstrations regarding refugee health care and missing Aboriginal women. Dr. Elizabeth McGibbon is a passionate advocate for social justice issues.
Her research studies focus on human rights, the political economy of health, and the social determinants of health. She is particularly interested in racism, geographic and gender issues that impact health, well being and access to health care.
As the 2012 Distinguished Visitor of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. McGibbon will share her expertise on these critical issues through a public lecture and lead a discussion and dialogue session on practical application of her knowledge.
