New Study Seeking Women who are Aging with HIV

This study will explore various challenges faced by women aging with HIV.

Who is doing the study?

Fife House in collaboration with Toronto People with AIDS Foundation, LOFT Community Services, Two-Spirited People of the First Nations and Wilfrid Laurier University.

The primary objectives of this study are:

•             To identify the individual and structural barriers to social support and health care services that aging women living with HIV/AIDS experience

•             To understand the intersection of sexuality and socially constructed gender roles and responsibilities, decision making and issues of access to resources for aging women living with HIV/AIDS

•             To explore the issues of stigma as experienced by aging women living with HIV/AIDS.

Eligibility Criteria

To participate, you should meet the following criteria: Woman, Living with HIV and 50 years or older. 

Interview Details

Each participant will be asked to take part in a one-on-one interview of 60 to 90 minutes duration at a mutually convenient location. The interview will consist of questions related to barriers to services and resources, issues of discrimination, and roles and responsibilities for aging women living with HIV/AIDS. 

Confidentiality

All information provided is confidential. Name and all identifying information of participants will be removed from all discussions, presentations and written reports which result from the research. The audio recording of interviews will be destroyed once it is transcribed (written on paper). Transcripts will be kept in a locked filing cabinet for the duration of the study and five years following the study completion, at which point they too will be destroyed.

Participation

Participation is strictly voluntary and participants are free to withdraw from the study at any point in time. Consenting or declining to participate in the study will not impact or affect any care or service you currently receive or plan to receive in the future from Fife House or any other partner/collaborating agency.

Compensation

All research participants will receive $30 cash at the end of their interview to reimburse them for any expenses incurred in order to participate in this study.
