Guerrilla Girls meets Adbusters in the latest poster campaign by the Canadian Women’s Health Network
The Canadian Women’s Health Network (CWHN) has initiated a new “shared” poster campaign that is fanning out across the country.
The CWHN has long been in the habit of sharing textual resources, such as health articles or FAQ fact-sheets through our website, amongst partner and like-minded women’s health organizations across Canada; but this time we’ve decided to spice things up by creating hard-hitting visual messages on a variety of important health themes – and we’ve have made them available to everyone!
The posters are professionally designed and are available on the CWHN website in PDF format, where they can be downloaded to a personal computer, or to another website, with a simple "click" of the mouse. Or they can be printed in hard copy on a colour photocopier or colour printer on standard 8 ½ x 11 printer or photo paper; new technology makes this process as easy as hitting "print" or simply saving the poster files to a CD or disk for later printing. The final result is a professional looking poster.
The main costs in any poster campaign are the hard copy printing and postage costs for distribution. By creating easily accessible electronic copies, we’ve by-passed this step to create this easy "do-it-yourself" activism kit that anyone can use.
The posters cover such topics as violence in the home; menstrual suppression; direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs; home care, and more. All posters are available in French and English.
The messages on the posters resemble the "in-your-face" activism style of the Guerilla Girls, with the postmodern design quality of Adbusters – sure to get the attention of most audiences.
After all, there is no point in treading softly if you want to get people’s attention. These are important issues that need to be addressed. We hope the posters will help get the word out there that these are issues that cannot be ignored any longer.
