As the Canadian population ages, there will be a need to encourage older workers to continue to remain active members of the labour force. One of the barriers experienced by older workers in terms of their labour force participation is increased family caregiving responsibilities (i.e. elder care). One sector experiencing this pressure is Canada's health care workers. Approximately forty percent of Canadian nurses are also family caregivers to older relatives, hence the term 'double duty caregivers.'
