The Alliance Steering Committee is comprised of a variety of public and private sector organizations including the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, America’s Health Insurance Plans, American Medical GroupAssociation, Canyon Ranch Institute, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity (DNPAO) and others.  The Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance receives funding from founding sponsor, sanofi-aventis U.S. LLC, and supporting sponsors, Allergan, Inc. and Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

An independent, nonprofit organization that works outside of government to provide unbiased and authoritative advice to decision makers and the public.  The IOM is the health arm of the National Academy of Sciences, whose aim is to help those in government and the private sector make informed health decisions by providing evidence upon which they can rely.  Many of the studies that the IOM undertakes begin as specific mandates from Congress; still others are requested by federal agencies and independent organizations. The IOM also convenes a series of forums, roundtables, and standing committees, as well as other activities, to facilitate discussion, discovery, and critical, cross-disciplinary thinking.

Established in 2005 by the Government of Canada, and funded through the Public Health Agency of Canada, the NCCAH is one of six centres in the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health program, each focusing on a different aspect of public health. Together, the centres help improve response to chronic disease and injury, infectious diseases, environmental health and health disparities. 

The NCCAH’s key program areas are the social determinants of Aboriginal health addressing underlying causes of illness and disease, and child and youth health.

Established in 1997 as a network comprising nongovernmental organizations, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), cooperating agencies, and the Bureau for Global Health of USAID. Promotes gender equity within population, health, and nutrition programs with the goal of improving reproductive health/HIV/AIDS outcomes and fostering sustainable development. Has 60 to 80 active members and maintains a listserv with more than 1,200 subscribers. A major focus of the group has been on gender education, advocacy, and the development of operational tools.
