This collection explores the myths and realities surrounding the lives of aging women living in rural America. Written by women, for women the writing in this book fill a void in gerontology literature. This volume contains five papers: four of which address specific issues relating to the realities of being old, femal, and rural. Collectively, these articles provide information about rural women's economic well-being, intergenerational family relationships, health care and service delivery as well as health and long-term care concerns. A final paper synthesizes these specific topics with the purpose of providing integration across methodologies and substansive content as well as critical review and recommendations for future research, education, and policy.
