Describes the information needed and the steps to take to present a profile of specific-or several-health -related issues, using a gender-based analysis. Follows the methods described in the 'Guidelines for Gender based Analysis of Health data for Decision Making'. Statistical information forms the basis for a gender analysis, which sensitizes planners and policy makers to health inequalities that are avoidable and unfair, and contributes to developing better programs and policies.

Presents the basic elements for developing a gender-based analysis using health statistics, and includes some case studies based on data derived from Belize. Highlights the importance of using data disaggregated by sex, age, socioeconomic level, ethnic group, sexual orientation, geographic area, and other factors, in specific contexts, and whenever possible.

Summarizes for policy makers and program planners the key recommendations from the report KISKÂYITAMAWIN MIYO-MAMITONECIKAN: Urban Aboriginal Women and Mental Health. Describes recommendations for policy and program development to better meet the mental health needs of Aboriginal women.

Reports on focus group discussions and personal interviews with 46 Aboriginal women in Winnipeg and Saskatoon with lived mental health experiences, Elders, front-line workers and a member of the mental health research community. Discusses key factors influencing Aboriginal women's mental health, how  Aboriginal women define mental health and well-being, community mental health resources, barriers to seeking out mental health programs and services, and Aboriginal women's mental health needs. Makes recommendations for policy and program development to better meet the mental health needs of Aboriginal women.

Describes the experiences and perceptions of nine First Nations and Métis women, in and around Thompson Manitoba, who participated as employees or trainees in non-traditional and resource extractive industries. Includes positive experiences and specific gender-based, socio-economic and health issues which challenged their ability to fully participate and benefit from these northern economic opportunities.

Presents the reflections of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Grandmothers from different regions of Canada and different Indigenous nations. Explores the diversity as well as the commonalities among Aboriginal women and their relationships with water.

Assesses evidence of the effectiveness of three aspects of tobacco control policy (sales restrictions, restrictions on location of smoking, and taxation and pricing), and the extent to which these tobacco control policies are gender-biased and have a differential impact on three vulnerable populations of male and female smokers.  Assesses the impact and consequences of these tobacco control policies on males and females of people living on low income, Aboriginal people, and adolescents.

Reviews evidence from peer-reviewed literature on three types of interventions aimed at supporting women to reduce their use of alcohol in the childbearing years.

A self-help booklet for pregnant women who smoke. Shows how routines, habits, and ways of interacting in relationships influence smoking. Understanding how smoking is influenced by others and everyday routines, is an important first step in changing smoking behaviours.

A booklet for women and girls about the impact of alcohol on your health. Includes recommended low-risk drinking guidelines.
