British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women's Health (BCCEWH)

Describes the process of sex- and gender-based analysis and offers a collection of case studies and commentaries that illustrate SGBA in action. The book is of interest to people working on policy, planning and research and to people at various levels of government. It will help readers understand sex- and gender-based analysis and learn how to apply it in their work for and with women and men, girls and boys.

In November 2008, women’s and children’s health experts working with the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) and the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health (BCCEWH) planned a workshop on Trauma-Informed Addictions and Mental Health Practice, designed to bring together service providers interested in applying “trauma-informed” and trauma-specific approaches in their work with clients with substance use, mental health and related health and social concerns.

Discusses the challenges of understanding the effects of breast implants and breast implant surgery. Proposes the establishment of a breast implant registry to collect information about this medical device and its use in Canada.

Provides a picture of women’s tobacco use in different social contexts, identifes the health effects of tobacco, and describes women’s role in tobacco production and marketing.

Examines the ways in which First Nations women who misuse substances are triply marginalized in the health care system, and the devastating implications of this.
