Focus” on Family Day

Text Size: Normal / Medium / Large

February 16, 2009  Toronto, ON

The newest Provincial statuary holiday in Ontario, Family Day falls on February 16, 2009.  In anticipation of Family Day, a partnership of social service organizations serving families are defining Family Day by creating a culture of inclusion to embrace the diversity of family to honour this new civic holiday.  To celebrate we have created an interactive On-Line Photo Gallery project, www.FamilyDayToronto.org.  This all-embracing campaign invites people to submit photos and stories of their self-defined families before February 16,  to illustrate the great diversity of family structures in our communities. This is a call to participate and endorse a broad definition of family.

Body Image and Self Esteem: Shades of Grey Conference

Text Size: Normal / Medium / Large

May 11- 12, 2009  Toronto, ON

Hungry for change?

Unattainable body “ideals” encourage black and white judgments. We either ‘fit’ or we don’t. And the changing goal-posts mean we’re never certain, often obsessing about our appearance. Weight and shape preoccupations are rarely about vanity, or even health.

But subtle understandings help pave the path to acceptance and self-esteem, so NEDIC’s 2009 Shades of Grey Conference is all about embracing the nuances of beauty and exploring the complexities of health and well-being.

Conference registration is now open.

Looking Back, Thinking Ahead: Using Research to Improve Policy and Practice in Women's Health

Text Size: Normal / Medium / Large

March 15 - 18, 2009  Halifax, NS

This conference will focus on how research has been used to improve policy and practice in women's and girls' health. We invite members of the women's health community: researchers, policy-makers and grassroots practitioners in Canada and abroad to join us. This is an opportunity to discuss how research has been used, and to exchange ideas and perspectives about the future of women's health research, policy and practice.

The conference will explore the relationships between research and policy or practice in the area of women's and girls' health.  We will be inviting submissions for oral and poster presentations that explicitly address the ways in which research can be or is used to create better policies and practices - and ultimately better health for women- in Canada and around the world.

Further information for abstract submission and registration is available on-line.
