Intimate Partner Violence is a serious public health problem. Health care providers have a role to play in identifying and supporting victims of intimate partner violence. In this training, Dr. Robin Mason will provide background information on women abuse and tools that can be used to screen for intimate partner violence. Dr. Patricia Mousmanis will explain the physician's role in aiding patients facing intimate partner violence. Physicians, dentists, nurses, nurse practitioners, dental hygienists and assistants, and other health care professionals are encouraged to participate either online or over the phone.
Online participants must download a small program to their computer prior to the webinar. Instructions for the program download will be sent with your completed registration. A personal computer with speakers is required. Apple (Mac) computers are not supported at this time.
Telephone participants will be provided a long distance number and access code. US long distance rates will apply. Telephone participants will be emailed the presentation slides before the webinar.
About The Presenters
Dr. Robin Mason is a Scientist at Women’s College Hospital in the Violence and Health Research Program and an Assistant Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health as well as the Women’s Mental Health Program, Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on diverse women’s experiences of violence and abuse, particularly intimate partner violence and educating health care professionals about these issues. She has contributed to policies and guidelines at the national, provincial and local level and was appointed through an Order in Council to Ontario’s Domestic Violence Advisory Council from 2007-2009. Dr. Patricia Mousmanis is a community based family physician who works as the Coordinator of the Healthy Child Development Program for the Ontario College of Family Physicians. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto School of Medicine and completed her family medicine residency program at the Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr Mousmanis is on staff at York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill and the Markham Stouffville Hospital in Markham. She works in York Region and Toronto in a group practice and also provides consulting services to the Public Health Units acrossOntario with regard to Integrated Services for Children
