Online training course on the Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women (CEDAW). Six tutorials discuss: what it means to achieve substantive equality and what creates inequality; the rights guaranteed in the Convention and how it is implemented and monitored; the structure of the United Nations System and how it monitors the progress of individual countries in achieving the goals set out in CEDAW; what the government of Canada is reporting to the UN CEDAW Committee on its compliance to CEDAW and how civil society actors participate in monitoring and implementing CEDAW; and, finally, offers general knowledge of other human rights mechanisms that advance women’s equality.
