This article discusses the serious problem of over-the-counter (OTC) analgesic abuse; questions why this is predominantly a women’s problem, causes kidney damage, critically explores the role of advertising and big business in women’s increased consumption of OTC’s.
Works to increase knowledge and understanding about diseases of the kidneys and urologic system among people with these conditions and their families, health care professionals, and the general public. Offers responses to inquiries about kidney and urologic diseases, publications about specific kidney and urologic diseases, and referrals to health professionals.
Works to improve the health and quality of life of people living with kidney disease. Funds research and clinical education; provides services for the special needs of individuals living with kidney disease; and promotes organ donation.
