This article introduces the Montreal Assault Prevention Centre and describes the centre's prevention philosophy and the development of their program. Discuses violence against women and children and the use of empowerment as assault prevention.
Offers an array of workshops on assault prevention to groups particularly vulnerable to assault - children, adolescents, women of all ages and people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.
Supports medical victims in sharing their concerns in a safe, confidential environment. Provides emotional support through the process and participate in advocacy work. Attends members' hearings and offers moral support. Medical victims are defined as anyone who has suffered emotional, physical or sexual abuse from a medical practitioner.
